Family name in China

Family name means (xìng) in Chinese. Family name is widely use in daily life. Except who are your familiar or families, you will call he Mr. + his family name ((xìng)+(xiān)(shēng)), or he Miss/Mrs. + her family name(xìng)+小姐(xiǎojiě)/女士(nǚshì)

Family name is so important in China, how to ask someone’s family name in Chinese? You can ask in below two ways ( if your name is Zhang San – (zhāng) (sān) )
1.       (qǐng)(wèn)(nín)(guì)(xìng)When some one ask this to you, you can say “免贵姓+your family name”, so you can say “(miǎn)(guì)(xìng)(zhāng)”, or “(xiǎo)(xìng)(zhāng)”. In China, “(guì)” usually say to others, so when you ask some one’s family name, you can use “(guì)but when you answer, you can not say yourself “(guì)
2.       (zěn)(me)(chēng)(hu)(nín)(ne)It is similar as “what is your name?” – some people will also say “()(de)(míng)()(jiào)(shén)(me)” or “()(jiào)(shén)(me)(míng)()” However, it is reported that in business talking or on phone, “(nín)(guì)(xìng)” or “(zěn)(me)(chēng)(hu)(nín)(ne)” are widely use more. If some one ask “(zěn)(me)(chēng)(hu)(nín)(ne)” You can say your family name + (xiān)(shēng)/(xiǎo)(jiě)(()(shì)), for example - (zhāng)(xiān).(shēng
